The idea for Hermiston and Friends was born way back in 2022, when I first moved back to my hometown of Hermiston, Oregon, after more than a decade away. Ultimately, I moved back to be closer to my family, but truly, if it weren’t for my roots here, I don’t know if I would have come back. But I’ve always felt strongly about this little spot in the high desert and chose right then that I was going to make the most of that decision.
Built on the idea of “loving where I live,” I’m finally launching Hermiston and Friends—a new hyper-local, digital-first space dedicated to building community and exploring where we live, work, and play in Hermiston and our neighboring communities of Umatilla, Stanfield, and Echo.
From trying local bites, highlighting businesses, chatting about positive news, and keeping you informed on events, to unapologetically sharing every Eastern Oregon sunset like it’s the last one, my hope is to build bridges in our community to create more opportunities to feel connected to where you live.
Because the bottom line is that I believe fostering a strong, local community matters. It matters for our growth, our youth, our happiness, and more.
We live in a great community. I just want to celebrate it and maybe make sure a few more people appreciate it along the way.
To start, you’ll see Hermiston and Friends on social media and SOON, a free, weekly newsletter sent to your inbox and featured here at www.hermistonandfriends.com. I’ll be honest: I am launching this space without a perfect plan. I have a lot of ideas, an open mind about how it may grow, and am so looking forward to hearing back from you about what you would like to see more of.
Whether you’ve lived here for generations or just arrived, my hope is that Hermiston and Friends helps you explore, connect, stay informed, and feel at home.
Let’s get started, friends!
